OMG Pickleball Club Mentorship Program

The purpose of the OMG Pickleball Club Mentorship Program is to provide
mentorship to new and existing OMG Pickleball Club members through
volunteers. If you have questions about this Program, please contact
Dale Miller at dalemiller351@gmail.com or by calling/texting
618-973-7886.

Mentors are OMG Pickleball Club volunteers who are willing to make themselves available to their mentee on a mutually agreed upon time for coaching in rules, skills and strategies with the goal to improve the mentee’s pickleball game. The volunteer mentor’s email address and contact information along with a short mentor biography is listed on the OMG website.

The Mentorship Program consists of two parts.

  • Part 1 will provide for those players just completing novice lessons or those just starting to play pickleball.

  • Part 2 is for all other members who have been playing for a while (more experienced players) and who would like additional coaching and mentoring. Each mentor/mentee relationship will last 2 months.

Responsibility of Mentor (Part 1 or Part 2)

  • Mentor’s skill rating level should be:

    • Part 1 – 3.0 plus 5 years of pickleball play experience

    • Part 2 – 3.5

  • A mentor's rating will be a USAPA rating, an IPTPA rating, or one's self-rating. For those who do not have a USAPA or an IPTPA rating, you should self-rate your skill level. Click here to view the criteria to self-rate yourself. Once you determine your skill level, click here to complete and submit the Self-rating Form.

  • Mentors will be approved by the OMG Pickleball Club’s Ratings Subcommittee.

  • Provide short biography to be shown on the OMG Pickleball Club's website.

  • Attend the OMG Pickleball Club's Mentor Training Program.

  • Understand and be familiar with the most recent edition of the USAPA Official Rulebook.

  • Act as coach and advisor. Provide play and strategy advice.

  • Share experiences, expertise and act as a sounding board.

  • Provide honest feedback to the mentee. Help the mentee move out of their comfort zone.

  • Work with your mentee to make sure they are aware of the play schedule.

  • Encourage your mentee to find times to play and attend sessions with the mentor to provide additional coaching.

  • Attend open play sessions with your mentee and play as their partner while coaching.

  • Give the player advice on what equipment the player may consider and where to purchase.

  • Mentors should only work with one mentee at a time.
